Water Supply and Treatment
One of the primary responsibilities of the utilities department is to ensure the reliable supply of clean and safe drinking water to the city’s residents and businesses. This involves managing and maintaining the water treatment plants, distribution systems (pipes, pumps, and reservoirs), and monitoring water quality to meet health and environmental standards. They also handle water billing and customer service related to water usage.
Wastewater Management
The utilities department is responsible for collecting, treating, and disposing of wastewater and sewage generated within the city. This includes the operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plants, sewage collection systems (sewer lines), and stormwater management to prevent flooding and environmental contamination. Proper wastewater management is essential for public health and environmental protection.
